What is Cardiac Rehab?cardiacrehab

Cardiac Rehabilitation is an exercise and health program aimed at helping people recover from a recent heart illness or surgery/procedure. It is designed to provide education guidelines to help heart patients safely increase their physical fitness and return to a healthy and active lifestyle. Education and counseling are available to help patients with dietary changes, weight loss, smoking cessation, and stress management.

Who needs a cardiac rehab program?
You may benefit if you have experienced:                                        

  • Heart attack
  • Stable angina
  • Angioplasty or stent procedure
  • Coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Heart valve repair or replacement
  • Heart transplant

Your Program

Cardiac rehabilitation provides individualized plans to increase your physical activity and fitness through medically supervised exercise. Participants are monitored by ECG, blood pressure and close supervision by your health care team. These professionals are trained in cardiac and emergency patient care. The cardiac rehab staff is dedicated to providing comprehensive care through personal attention, counseling and education. By working together with your health care providers, you can reduce the risk of new problems.

Referrals to the Program

A physician’s referral is required for admission into the program. For further information or assistance, please call your local physician or our Cardiac Rehab program.

Medicare and most insurances cover all or most of the cost of Outpatient Phase II Cardiac Rehab. We encourage you to contact your provider to ask about coverage before starting Cardiac Rehab.

Cardiac rehabilitation at West River Health Services is affiliated with the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
