Dr. Joshua Ranum and Matt Shahan of West River Health Services in Hettinger, North Dakota accept the 2018 Dakota Conference Scrubs Camp of the Year award.

West River Health Services, Hettinger, was named the R-COOL-Health Scrubs Camp of the Year. The award, given at the 2018 Dakota Conference on Rural and Public Health annual banquet in Grand Forks, honors a grantee that hosted a Scrubs Camp deemed as the top camp of the year based on the overall combination of a number of factors, including:

      Professions students are exposed to,

      Innovative and interactive activities,

Collaboration of community partners and local healthcare professionals, and

Organization of the camp and grant process.

West River Health Services of Hettinger hosted a Scrubs Camp for approximately 100 students in grades nine and ten from the communities of Bowman and New England. This was an opportunity for young people to learn about careers in the healthcare industry. The focus of the camp was to engage the area youth in interactive and hands-on activities. Health providers and employees from Hettinger, Bowman, and New England led fun and informational sessions on a wide variety of healthcare topics.

Matt Shahan, CEO of West River Health Services accepted the award.

The Dakota Conference is a joint effort by the North Dakota Rural Health Association; the North Dakota Public Health Association; Altru Health System of Grand Forks; the UND College of Nursing and Professional Disciplines; and the Center for Rural Health.
