WRHS Foundation Awards $4,000 to Further Local Area Student’s Healthcare Education

Graduation AnnouncementThe Foundation at West River Health Services is proud to announce the recipients of our 2021 “Senior In High School Scholarships.” The following eight area students from five area communities received $500 scholarships each:

All of the scholarships, with the exception of the Denim Day Scholarship, are available to students entering a “healthcare field of study” as a full-time college student. The Denim Day Scholarship, funded by West River Health Services and Western Horizons Living Centers employees, who give $1 on the second Friday of each month (so they can wear jeans to work on that day), is available only for sons or daughters of WRHS or WHLC employees. They can be entering any field of study in college, part-time or full-time.

Our Scholarship Committee at the WRHS Foundation, comprised of five Board of Director members, reviews and scores all of the applications based on a 100 point system -- with 40 points for GPA/Academics, 30 points for Letters of Recommendation and School/Community Involvement and 30 points for Essay. Then, based on the average scores, scholarship criteria and equitability, the winners are selected. Jim and Linda Stippich personally review the applications for the Joyce Stippich Memorial Nursing Scholarship and select their recipient privately.

THANK YOU to all of the families who sponsor scholarships, employees who give toward our Denim Day Scholarship, donors who provide funds for our WRHS Foundation scholarships, purchasers and providers of our plants at our “West River Perennial Plant Sale” which funds our Auxiliary Legacy Scholarship, and our Scholarship Committee. Together we are making a difference for our area students to aid them in pursuit of their dreams. Hopefully, some of them will return to our service area to take care of us. And just maybe, as employees of West River Health Services or Western Horizons Living Centers.

In addition, we are hoping to host our Annual “Community Turkey Luncheon” this fall, so we have funding for our 2021 “Upperclassmen in College” and “Employee Scholarships.” Onward!
