$12,000 Community Give Back Grant

The West River Health Services Foundation has decided to give back $12,000 net dollars from their 38th Annual Fun Run & Walk event on the 4th of July. The nonprofit organization hustled their way to a sensational fundraiser with over 300 participants -- to give back the net funds to area communities for healthy projects and activities. The fundraiser started four months ago and culminated with the race around Mirror Lake in Hettinger on our nation's 250th Birthday!

Over the past four years of the Fun Run & Walk, the WRHS Foundation has given back $40,950 or almost 100% of the net funds raised from their annual event. Last year, $11,000 was gifted back to area communities! Spanning the three years before that, from 2022 through 2024 -- $10,500; $10,000; and $9,450 was given back to area communities for healthy projects and activities. Everything from weight lifting, volleyball, kayaks, yoga, recreation library and junior golf equipment to safety vests, first aid backpacks, recumbent bicycles, medicine kits, and AED's for area schools, golf courses, fitness and elder centers. Plus, we've provided partnerships for area youth rodeos, libraries, daycares, walking programs, behavioral health and art guest speakers, and more. And, we've given to larger projects like the New England Running Track, Pappy Stokes Memorial Bandshell Renovations, Avery Lynn Memorial Park Project, and the Mirror Lake Kayak Launcher. Educationally, we've supported Hettinger, Scranton, New England, Mott-Regent, and Lemmon Public Schools with weight room equipment, free swims, AED/CPR Training, and an artist in residency program. Community wise, we've supported numerous local organizations like Live Inc., Communities Kicking Cancer, CAVA, Dakota Prairie Helping Hands, Mother's Cupboard, Adams County Food Pantry, Western Horizons Care Center & Assisted Living Center, NDSU Extension, Placemakers, Hettinger Chamber, Lemmon and Hettinger Libraries and golf courses, Reeder Lions, Grand River Sportsmen's Club, Hettinger Fitness Center, Bowman's Rise & Shine Daycare, The Granary and the Hettinger Cowboy Band!
