WIC National Enrollment Week Celebrated in North Dakota

During the week of October 10-14, North Dakota WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is celebrating WIC National Enrollment Week! WIC aims to reach families by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets and referrals to health and other social services. We are celebrating with other WIC agencies throughout the country to show our communities why WIC is an important resource for not only expecting and current mothers but also for fathers, foster parents and caretakers.

WIC provides access to healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, milk, whole grains, eggs, peanut butter, cereal, infant formula and baby food. The food benefits are provided monthly on an eWIC card to use at your local grocery store. WIC also provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support and other health information.

WIC is available to a variety of families, regardless or marital or employment status. To qualify for WIC, you must meet income guidelines or participate in ND Medicaid, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Head Start, or Healthy Steps. In addition, the applicant must be determined to be at nutritional risk. WIC staff determine nutrition risk after completing a health assessment during the first appointment, including height, weight, hemoglobin and a nutrition questionnaire.

"North Dakota WIC is here for all families seeking support, which makes WIC National Enrollment Week so important," said Amanda Varriano, North Dakota WIC director. "Our team is ready to assist families to make healthy choices, and help them save on groceries, so they can have more to spend on other things their family needs."

Families can easily make appointments to see if they qualify for WIC. To find a local clinic, click here or visit signupwic.com.
