We're right where you need us for diagnostic services!
Radiology Services:
Mammography: WRHS offers quality screening and diagnostic breast imaging. Mammography uses a low dose x-ray system to aid in early detection and the diagnosis of breast diseases. Our mammography services also include screening mammography, breast ultrasound, and breast biopsies using wire localization. Breast health is important. Along with a yearly clinical breast exam by your physician and monthly self breast exams, Women ages 40 and older are encouraged to participate in an annual screening mammogram each year to help detect important changes in the breast.
Ultrasound: With our new Philips iU22, WRHS is able to provide comprehensive 3D/4D imaging along with general US. Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to image various areas of the body without radiation. Like fluoroscopy, ultrasound is able to capture structural movement in real time. With 4D capabilities, technologists and doctors are able to note structural differences more readily. Ultrasound is commonly used to view vascular or fluid filled organs in order to evaluate symptoms such as pain, swelling, or infection.
Bone Density: Years ago diseases such as osteoporosis, a disease that depletes the minerals in bone, could be detected after you broke a bone. By then your bones could be very weak. Today however, we can measure bone density using a DEXA scan. DEXA stands for Dual Emission X-ray Absorptiometry. The DEXA scan uses x-rays to measure the amount of minerals, such as Calcium, that are stored in bone giving information of bone mass and the likelihood of a bone fracture.
MRI: Mon-Dak mobile imaging provides weekly Magnetic Resonance Imaging services to WRHS. MRI uses state of the art equipment to produce cross sectional images of the body. MRI utilizes magnetic fields to successfully diagnose common illnesses and injuries such as soft tissue abnormalities, tumors, strokes, torn ligaments, bulging disks, and other functional anomalies of organs including the liver, kidneys, and more.
X-ray: The radiology staff at WRHS excels in producing quality diagnostic images while minimizing exposure to patients. General x-ray imaging provides two dimensional images of the body to diagnose fractures, bone abnormalities, lung diseases, and some soft tissue abnormalities. WRHS not only offers a wide range of general x-ray images for adults, we can also safely and effectively provide x-rays for the pediatric patient.
Fluoroscopy: Fluoroscopy procedures incorporate the use of both general radiology and a fluoroscope. Fluoroscopy exams are performed by the radiologist. It uses real time imaging and contrast to help the radiologist more accurately evaluate an area. Shoulder arthrograms, upper GI studies, lower GI studies, voiding cystourethrograms, and hysterosalpingograms are some of the fluoroscopy procedures done at WRHS.
Nuclear Medicine: Nuclear medicine uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions. Unlike other imaging modalities, Nuclear Medicine procedures can be both diagnostic and therapeutic. Radiopharmaceuticals are mixed with kits that specifically allow us to image a particular organ or system in the body. The radiopharmaceuticals are administered typically through a vein in the arm. The energy from the radiopharmaceutical in the form of gamma rays are detected by the Nuclear Medicine scanner producing detailed images of structures and function of organs, tissues, and systems. Nuclear medicine involves procedures such as cardiolite stress tests, thyroid scans, renograms, total body scans, lung scans, MUGA scans, and more.
CT: Our Philips Brilliance 16 slice CT scanner features advanced technology that produces split-second high quality images, permitting doctors to see more anatomical detail in a fraction of the time. With this CT scanner, West River physicians will be able to more effectively detect a range of life threatening illnesses, including cancer, stroke, and lung disease. CT stands for computerized tomography. A CT scan is an x-ray procedure that also uses a computer to generate a picture of your body. This gives a 3-dimensional view or slice of a particular part of your body. Contrast media may also be used to help aid the radiologist more accurately evaluate an area.
